Bogha (pronounced 'boa') were created in 2014 especially for their appearance at the world famous Lorient Interceltic Festival. Playing Irish music but also less known traditional music from Northern England, Scotland and France.
Performed on both well known and more rare instruments, this diverse traditional repertoire, coupled with modern rhythms, and newly composed pieces with funky and lively arrangements creates a rich tapestry, woven and worked beautifully into a natural and harmonious mosaic resulting in a unique style that is musical and textured but also lively and fun.

The Musicians.
Ciara Brennan
Ciara hails from the Irish capital Dublin. A musician and singer songwriter of notable gift Ciara has been surrounded by music all her life. As soon as she could hold an instrument she was playing, she began on the fiddle and went on to become a highly accomplished musician playing violin, singing and playing some mandolin, concertina and piano along the way.
As a musician descended from the great musical heritage of the Rowsome and Brennan families,
Ciara has won all Ireland titles on violin, solo singing and in the not so common art of Lilting.
From an early age Ciara was part of several of the Comhaltas Ceolteori hEireann (CCE) tours, such as the British tour and the tour of North America and Canada and she has played in countries such as, Belgium, Hungary, Austria and France to name a few, playing for delighted audiences at concerts, events and sessions. She also anchored the summer show, Sessiun, in the CCE headquarters in Dublin for many years.
As a testament to her ability, a young Ciara was delighted to play as second violinist to Stockton’s Wing Maurice Lennon’s solo violin during the “Brian Boru The High King of Tara” concert. A Musical Portrait by Maurice Lennon himself. A memory she treasures.
Ciara is also a highly regarded music teacher passing on her insights and love of music to the next generation of musicians and she has taught at numerous classes and workshops.
With her roots in Irish traditional music, Ciara is also a keen singer songwriter and she has ventured into other genres, has played violin and sang with bands such as folk rock bands, New Found Souls and with alternative rock band, Kid Coy, the latter who recently released their debut album, Resolute.
She is currently also working with the original celtic music and irish dance show KELTIAC.
Dimitri Boekhoorn
Performer, artist and teacher of early and modern harps, flute and whistles.
Dimitri is from The Netherlands. A former teacher at the University of Rennes 2, he holds a cooperative PhD from the University College of Cork and the University of Rennes 2 in Celtic Studies.
Principally self-taught, Dimitri plucks, wire-strung and other harps with his nails, similarly to the medieval Gaelic harpers. This results in a unique playing technique, creating a light and rapid ornamented style.
His repertoire includes music from the Celtic countries and early music as well as his own compositions.
A featured artist at the Lorient Inter-Celtic Festival; at Celtic Harp Festivals in Edinburgh, Dinan, Porto and Vevey; at Folkwoods; at the Largentière Medieval Music Festival and with the renowned Galician musician Carlos Núñez.

He has also performed at Folkwoods, at the Largentière Medieval Music Festival, at the Itinéraire Baroque Festival and at the Breton Parliament . He as also performed with the renowned Galician musician, Carlos Núñez. Dimitri performs as a soloist, on both modern and early harps and he also collaborates frequently, with traditional and early music ensembles, such as, the medieval group Amadis (recorded by France Musique), the ODO ensemble, Duo Les Flamands 'Osent and Ensemble Toss The Feathers. Dimitri is also the harpist with KELTIAC. An interview on his project with a massive gold-strung Irish harp has been broadcasted by France Culture. Dimitri, currently living in Brittany, performs internationally and throughout Europe.

Chris Dawson
Multi-instrumentist - playing principally traditional flutes/whistles, and cittern/bouzouki, but also other instruments including bodhran, mandolin, didgeridoo, etc

Having grown up amongst the musical diversity in north-west UK, he likes to keep an open mind and attitude towards other musical styles and influences while at the same time staying close to his trad musical roots.
Beside the trad music his early professional experiences also saw him working regularly in a soul/funk band touring all over UK and europe and also working in diverse studios with a top recording artist (music chart top ten hits) in other musical styles and proved to be a great learning curve in both musical and technical aspects, with the traditional music taking on a professional level in the early 90's.
Chris is also one of the rare flute players who can play the flute using circular breathing, a technique which allows to play indefinitley without a break in the notes...
Has worked alongside some notable musicians such as Sylvain Barou (Triad, Guidewires), Dan Ar Braz, Michael McGoldrick, Annie Ebrel, Alain Genty (Barzaz).
Also, completely self taught, Chris has also for over 20 years been making and playing his own professional quality bamboo flutes.
Michael McGoldrick was the first person to realise their potential and play them in the early 90's and has continued to play them to this day, along with Sylvain Barou (Guidewires), Jean-Michel Veillon, Eric Cunningham (Frankie Gavin & De Dannan), and many others.

Ciara Brennan
VIOLON, CHANT
Excellente violoniste de Dublin, capitale de l'Irlande. Musicienne, chanteuse, compositrice douée, Ciara a été entourée de musique toute sa vie. Dès qu'elle a su tenir un instrument, elle a joué. Elle a commencé le fiddle (violon irlandais), et elle est devenue une musicienne remarquable tant au violon qu'au chant, tout en jouant aussi de la guitare et du piano. Ciara a reçu un héritage musical indéniable de sa famille, du côté des Rowsome et des Brennan, et elle a été primée plusieurs fois à I'All Ireland Fleadh Championship en fiddle, (en individuel et en groupe) et elle a aussi gagné au même prestigieux championnat en lilting (une forme de chant rythmique peu commun).
Son talent de musicienne a été reconnu par Maurice Lennon de 'Stockton's Wing' qui l'a invitée pour jouer en tant que deuxième violoniste dans le spectacle "Brian Boru le haut Roi de Tara", portrait musical écrit par Maurice Lennon lui-même, souvenir qu'elle chérit.
Toute jeune, Ciara a fait partie de plusieurs des tournées “Comhaltas Ceolteori hEireann (CCE)”, comme la tournée britannique et celles en Amérique du Nord et au Canada, et elle a joué dans plusieurs pays tels que la Belgique, la Hongrie, la France, et l'Autriche, entre autres.
Elle s'est également occupé du show d'été Sessiun au siège des CCE à Dublin pendant de nombreuses années. Ciara est une enseignante de musique très respectée qui transmet ses connaissances, idées et amour de la musique aux musiciens de la génération suivante ; elle a animé de nombreux cours et stages. Ses racines sont dans la musique traditionnelle irlandaise, mais elle est aussi une chanteuse et songwriter talentueuse qui s'est ouverte à d'autres genres : elle a notamment joué et chanté avec des groupes folk rock, New Found Souls et avec le groupe de rock alternatif Kid Coy, qui a récemment publié son premier album, Resolute.
Ces temps-ci, elle travaille avec le groupe KELTIAC, show de musiques et danses irlandaises et celtiques tout à fait original.
Chris Dawson
BOUZOUKI/CISTRE, FLUTES, DIDJERIDU, BODHRÁN, MANDOLINE
Multi-instrumentiste, il joue du bouzouki irlandais, du cistre, de diverses flûtes traversières en bois et en bambou qu'il fabrique lui-même, du didgeridoo, du bodhran (tambour irlandais) et d'autres instruments. Ayant grandi dans un bain de diversité musicale dans le nord-ouest de l'Angleterre, Chris aime garder un esprit et une attitude ouverts vis-à-vis d'autres styles musicaux et d'autres influences, tout en restant proche de ses racines de musique traditionnelle. Il s'est produit au sein d'un groupe de soul/funk, avec des tournées en Grande-Bretagne et ailleurs en Europe. Il a également joué dans des studios divers avec de grands artistes (music chart top ten hits) d'autres styles musicaux, et cette expérience lui a beaucoup apporté, suite à quoi sa pratique de musique traditionnelle s'est professionnalisée dans les années 90.
Chris a travaillé sur son album 'Out on the Edge' avec des artistes de la plus grande renommée, notamment avec Sylvain Barou (Triad, Guidewires), Dan Ar Braz, Michael McGoldrick (Capercaillie), Alain Genty (Barzaz), Annie Ebrel. Il s'est produit un peu partout en Europe (Grande-Bretagne, Irlande, France, Italie, Pays-Bas, Belgique, Espagne, Portugal, Pologne, Hongrie, Allemagne, entre autres).
Chris est également reconnu pour sa maîtrise en studio d’enregistrement en tant que directeur artistique et ingénieur du son. En outre, autodidacte complet, Chris fait ses propres flûtes traversières en bambou, instruments de qualité professionnelle. Michael McGoldrick a été le premier à se rendre compte de leur potentiel dans les années 90 et en joue encore aujourd'hui, de même que Sylvain Barou (Guidewires), Jean-Michel Veillon, Eric Cunningham (Frankie Gavin & De Dannan), et beaucoup d'autres.
Dimitri Boekhoorn
HARPES ANCIENNES, MÉDIÉVALES, MODERNES ET CELTIQUES
Néerlandais, docteur dès Etudes Celtiques, ancien enseignant universitaire (Rennes).
Il joue de la musique traditionnelle des pays celtes (Irlande, Ecosse, Bretagne, Pays de Galles…), de la musique ancienne (Moyen-Age, Renaissance, Baroque), ainsi que ses propres compositions depuis 1988.
Principalement autodidacte, il utilise les ongles comme les "harpeurs" irlandais et écossais médiévaux, notamment sur des cordes en métal, depuis 1998. Cette découverte d’une technique à la fois ancienne et traditionnelle lui a fait changer radicalement de jeu, pour retrouver un style plus léger, rapide et ornementé.
Invité du Festival Interceltique de Lorient, des Festivals de Harpe Celtique à Edimbourg, Dinan, Porto ainsi que Vevey, du Festival médiéval de Largentière, du Folkwoods et du musicien galicien Carlos Núñez à plusieurs reprises, il se produit régulièrement en soliste avec plusieurs harpes modernes et anciennes dotées de différents types de cordes.
Dimitri collabore également avec des groupes de musiques traditionnelles et anciennes dont l’ensemble médiéval Amadis (enregistrement par France Musique).
Il s’est produit dans plusieurs pays d’Europe (Irlande, Royaume-Uni, Pays-Bas, Belgique, France, Suisse, Espagne, Portugal, Italie) et réside en Bretagne.
Dimitri enseigne principalement au Cercle Celtique de Rennes.
